Although born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1947, Gary Ozias spent most of his early years in rural Massachusetts.  He is a retired language arts teacher but has always been interested in art.  He graduated from Worcester State College in 1969, taught for a brief period in Massachusetts, then moved to Downs, Kansas where he now resides.  He has a wife, Wilma, and two daughters, Moira and Megan.

His father, an engraver, gave Gary much of his early training.  He began the formal study of art and painting in the late 1970’s. In 1983, he opened Prairie Wind Art Gallery and Studio where he now works full time when he’s not outdoors painting.

His paintings have won numerous awards and hang in collections from coast to coast and in other countries. He works in a variety of media, including pastel, oil, watercolor, pencil, charcoal, and ink. His work is representational but has a painterly touch to it. He specializes in landscapes but also paints wildlife and other subjects. He considers himself fortunate to be able to paint full time and hopes that others find as much enjoyment from his work as he does in painting it.
