Camille Corot,
famous French painter of the 19th century, once made a remark that forms
the general philosophy behind my work: "Art is not art unless it
makes men merry." I want to encourage the enjoyment of the grand
or commonplace that is around us. And I want to be a good steward of the
creative gift entrusted me by God, the great Creator of beauty and practicality.
I enjoy history
with its influence on daily life, and how we observe its "leftovers"
today, tending toward certain historic/nostalgic themes. I like to call
my style "impressionistic realism", as different from "photo
realism". Ink, with
its old time feel, and pastel in its looser richness and immediacy are
my current mediums, but I also work in watercolor, oil and acrylic.
