MAPS Fifth Annual Small Painting ShowOctober 29 through November 26, 2002 in Prairie Village, KansasMAPS and PASA members currently have 104 small paintings on exhibit at the R. G. Endres Gallery at the Prairie Village City Hall Building located at 7700 Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kansas. The Artist Reception held Friday, November 1st, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. was well-attended, and proved yet again, to be a popular event. Nine paintings were sold opening night. The “Small Painting Show” consists of original pastel paintings which are no larger than 8”x10”, and many of the works are much smaller. It can be a challenge for the artist to paint on a small scale, with some of the paintings measuring as small as 3” x 3”, but each work is still a beautiful, framed piece of art. An advantage for beginning and serious collectors, these small, original paintings are jewels that can be purchased for quite reasonable prices. Visitors, right, admire the paintings from our sister pastel society, The Pastel Artists of South Australia (PASA). This is the second year they have participated in our Small Painting Show, and the color palette of the Australian landscapes has again added a unique element to our show. If you have not yet been in to see the Small Painting Show, please try to attend-- you will not be disappointed. The quality of the paintings is exquisite! --Kathy Drungilas
Johnson County 50+ Parks & Recreation 2nd Annual Plein Air Painting EventThe Johnson County 50+ Parks & Recreation 2nd Annual Plein Air Painting Event took place October 12-13, 2002 at Shawnee Mission Park. This event was co-sponsored by the Mid-America Pastel Society and the Greater Kansas City Art Association. Saturday artists gathered together for check in and then dispersed to various locations around the 1,250-acre park to paint. Sunday, the artists exhibited their paintings and an auction was held with 70% of the proceeds going to the artists. Thirty-seven artists participated despite a rainy weekend. MAPS members did quite well at the exhibit following a dreary day of painting. Donna Carrington won “Best of Show”, Donna Aldridge took “Second Place”, Loreta Feeback “Third Place” and Jody Drake and Paula Wilson were awarded “Honorable Mentions”. Kudos, ladies!
