2. A “Letter of Artistic Intent” may be used by the applicant to describe the type of art education desired, the primary artistic vision motivating the applicant to create or how the student envisions his/her future as a practicing artist. A statement indicating how the student will use the scholarship monies would be appropriate, but is not required.
3. Letters of Reference from two (2) individuals are requested. These individuals should have knowledge of the student and their artistic desires. Personality of the student, artistic vision and/or talent and potential capabilities can be addressed. Letters will be used to give the committee an indication of the personality of the applicant and the likelihood that they will continue to pursue a career in the fine arts.
4. Portfolio Images are defined as images of the applicant’s past paintings. Artworks should have been completed within the past two years. At least one image should be a work incorporating at least 80% pastel pigment (oil pastels are not acceptable). A painting completed during a class or instructor-led studio is acceptable, but it should be the creation of the student alone. Images can be submitted as digital images on a cd-rom, or photographs. Images should not show frames, clips, or hands holding the painting, but should only show the image of the art itself.
